Foods That Help Fight Chronic Pain

Living with chronic pain can be difficult and has a tremendous impact on quality of life. It may feel as if there are no solutions.
Pain stems from inflammation within the body and the more inflammation there is in the body, the more pain occurs.
But what if simple lifestyle changes offered increased relief of pain? Food choices are a big factor that can help lessen chronic pain.
Each of the foods listed below decrease inflammation therefore lessening chronic pain. So let’s dive in!
1. Salmon
Salmon is chock full of nutrients that can lead to a decrease in chronic pain. This fish contains omega-3 fatty acids that are imperative for reducing inflammation.
Not only does the fish do wonders for pain, it can also enhance mood! Do you become cranky as a side effect of dealing with chronic pain? Salmon supplies the best of both worlds by decreasing pain and improving mood.
How To: Plan to incorporate salmon into meal rotation 1-2 times in the upcoming week. Fish not your favorite? You can also try an omega-3 fatty acid supplement to receive similar benefits outlined above.
2. Almonds
Almonds are naturally anti-inflammatory and aid in reducing chronic pain. This nut contains protein, magnesium, calcium and iron. These impressive nutrients assist the body in recovering from bouts of activity. If you find that after activity such as exercise or a long day of work your pain is increased, almonds are for you!
How To: Almonds are the perfect snack. They are easy to carry and widely available. Aim to snack on 10-15 almonds at a time for optimal absorption of nutrients.
3. Dark Chocolate
Dark chocolate is a delicious way to decrease pain!
Dark chocolate contains antioxidants which carry anti-inflammatory properties. Furthermore, antioxidants positively influence aging. Dark chocolate is a suitable choice if you have noticed that as you age, your chronic pain increases.

How To: Dark chocolate makes for a decadent dessert! After dinner, enjoy 1-2 squares of dark chocolate to receive the benefits of reducing chronic pain.
4. Green Tea
Green tea has been praised for its benefits and for good reason!
Much like dark chocolate, green tea includes antioxidant properties that diminish inflammation. Green tea contain compounds called catechins that have serious power in reducing pain due to their antioxidant capabilities.
Another reason to drink green tea? It can reduce anxiety and depression that can often be a result of dealing with chronic pain.
How To: Feel an afternoon slump coming on? Rather than reach for coffee, try green tea! It can uplift your energy and spirits while working hard to reduce inflammation. Add a fresh lemon for even more energy!
Although at times it may feel like there is no relief from chronic pain, remember that making the appropriate lifestyle choices can positively affect the degree to which you feel discomfort. Food is a main factor in providing relief. So here's to some tasty natural pain relief!
